Environmental Learning Center

Oregon City, Oregon

The Environmental Learning Center was redeveloped at Clackamas Community College to create an outdoor learning hub that merges healthy habitat and environmental education.  The 5-acre site was re-graded, re-vegetated and now treats campus stormwater runoff before it enters the headwaters of Newell Creek. Target species of pond turtles, fish, and waterfowl were identified to create habitat and seven identified plant communities were re-established with native species. Bridges and buildings were built with recycled materials. The area is a hands-on learning resource and research site for the college, as well as local elementary, middle, and high schools.  To encourage sensitivity, access, and education to the area, the Learning Center includes trails, boardwalks, viewing platforms, backyard wildlife areas, group gathering spots, and interpretive signage. Nevue Ngan Associates completed design development and construction documentation for the project.
